Proposed Vaughan Mainline Expansion Project

Project Overview

TransCanada is constructing a new natural gas transmission pipeline in the City of Vaughan in order to continue to provide homes, businesses, schools and hospitals in Ontario and Eastern Canada with a safe and reliable source of natural gas.

The project will address customer demand for natural gas in Ontario and Eastern Canada markets and will improve access to new natural gas supplies from the U.S. Northeast.

The Vaughan Mainline Expansion (VME) Project will be integrated into TransCanada’s existing Canadian Mainline system in the City of Vaughan upon completion. VME will include the construction of approximately 12 kilometres of 42-inch diameter pipe for the purpose of transporting natural gas.

TransCanada commenced construction of the VME Project in November 2016. Construction activities completed to date have included establishing a project construction office and laydown yard in Caledon, the installation of temporary fencing and signage, grading and vegetarian clearing. Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), construction of access roads and pipe stringing.

In addition to improved access to natural gas, the project will also provide financial benefits to the City of Vaughan through local spending during construction and through annual property tax payments and community partnerships and investments.

The project is expected to be in service in late 2017. For project updates, please view the project newsletter in Related Information.
